Overview
Highway Workforce worked in partnership with Balfour Beatty and Transport for Buckinghamshire to undertake targeted repairs to the existing road pavement. Hot applied flowable mastic was used to restore the integrity of the pavement extending the pavement life by an estimated 5 additional years.
Resources
Highway Workforce mobilised a specialist three-operative mastic crew equipped with a purpose-built mastic boiler and bespoke tools. Works were undertaken under road closure allowing essential works along the centreline joint. Works were coordinated with a specialist roadmarking crew who repainted all line on completion.
Results
During the total working period of 15 hours, 178m of centreline was repaired along with 116m2 of localised patches. Each repair was completed without the need for breakout, excavation, or compaction equipment, eliminating the risk of HAVs for the operatives undertaking the work. Consequently, zero waste was generated during the repair process.
A carbon saving of 48,701 kg/CO2e was delivered making a significant contribution to Buckinghamshire’s carbon reduction targets.
